Stage and Process Steps

ICD believes that following a proven and effective process is key to a successful translation project. You can expect that when you use ICD’s services, your company will be a key player along with our highly professional staff of project managers, localization engineers, desktop publishing experts, and translators in your translation and localization project. The process we use at ICD, shown below, has been refined over hundreds of projects to ensure that we build quality into each step of your project.

    Preparation

  1. Provide a quotation.
  2. Review the quotation and accept the project.
  3. Prepare a project plan with assignments and schedules.
  4. Extract text strings from the source files and pre-process the files to facilitate translation.
  5. Establish Translation Memory (TM) (for a new client) or pretranslate the files to ensure consistency and low cost (for a client that has an existing TM).

    Translation

  1. Assign the pre-processed files to the translators.
  2. Translate the pre-processed files.
  3. Conduct copyediting, proofreading and QA reviews.
    • Fail QA review? Return to Step 2.
    • Pass QA review? Proceed to DTP stage.
    4.  

    DTP

  1. Convert the translated files back to the source format.
  2. Conduct DTP or localization of the translated source files and create PDF documents, if needed.
    3.  

    QA

  1. Proof the translated PDFs against the source language PDFs and conduct a QA review for formatting and translation.
    • Fail QA review? Return to DTP.
    • Pass QA review? Proceed to Step 2.
  2. Send the translated PDFs to the client for review.
  3. Conduct internal QA reviews.
    • Fail QA review? Return comments to the Translation
    vendor, who will repeat the appropriate steps.
    • Pass QA review? Notify the Translation vendor, who
    will proceed to Delivery and Maintenance.

    Delivery and Maintenance

  1. Send the final source files in the translated language to the client.
  2. Maintain the TM.
